George Fontenot

LAWTELL- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mr. George L. Fontenot at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019, in the St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell. Fr. Austin Leger will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Bridget Mausoleum.

Mr. George, age 89, a resident of Prairie Ronde, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home surrounded by his loved ones.

Mr. George, a retired farmer, serviced his local community with his rice and bean crops and crawfish fields. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. George enjoyed traveling to the local tracks to watch the horse races. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sons, Gerald Fontenot and wife, Mary of Lawtell and Michael Fontenot and wife, Theresa of Opelousas; daughter, Diana Vidrine and husband, Darrel of Tyler, TX; daughters-in-law, Jamie Fontenot, Rhonda Fontenot, Anna Fontenot; 31 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Francois Fontenot; parents, Alphonse and Helena Boudreaux Fontenot; his sons, John Fontenot, Kenneth Fontenot, Randy Fontenot, Steven Fontenot and Jimmie Fontenot; his daughter, Jennifer Fontenot; and sisters, Alma Reed and Helen Myers.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. Fr. Austin Leger will recite the rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Fontenot, Jordan Fontenot, Tracy Fontenot, Dakoda Fontenot, Derrick Fontenot and Donald Lachney. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Fontenot and Dylan Fontenot.
