OpelousasA Mass of Christian Burial for George Allen Soileau will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014, in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Msgr. Louis Melancon will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park.
George was a longtime resident of Opelousas. He passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Welch, LA, at the age of 87. He worked as a hospital orderly for many years and was also a janitor at several schools. He was a local artist and craftsman. Mr. George was a U. S. Army Veteran who served his country during the German Reconstruction. He was a member of St. Landry Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Emmadine Kady Soileau of Opelousas two sons, Raymond Soileau and Thomas Soileau, both of Lafayette three daughters, Rita Reinach and husband, David of Baton Rouge Eva Council and husband, Roy of Palmetto Geraldine Soileau of Opelousas godchild, Joseph Earlis Blackie Soileau, Jr. of Opelousas one sister, Neva Marks of Arnaudville 8 grandchildren, Raelene Williams and husband, Jason of Montz Rachel Saborio and husband, Joseph of Baton Rouge Shane Council and wife, Heather of Grand Prairie Brady Council and wife, Courtney of Opelousas Jeremi Council of Port Barre Daris Council and wife, Claire of Port Barre Charlene Leger and husband, Tony of Opelousas and Eliska Johnson and husband, Darrin of Opelousas 17 greatgrandchildren, Grant Williams, Gabrielle Williams, Kirsten Saborio, Lauren Council, Anna Council, Lindsay Council, Kolby Council, Kati Council, Abbigail Chautin, Raphael Chautin, Annie Josephine Leger, Jayden Leday, Dominic Leday, Mariah Leday, Joseph Johnson, Margaret Johnson, and Sarah Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosemond Soileau and Eliska Fontenot Soileau two sisters, Pearl Soileau and Viola Phillips seven brothers, Willis, Clarence, Aaron, Ervin, Roy, Earlis, and Avie Soileau fatherinlaw and motherinlaw, Noah and Cecile Kady and an infant child, Francis Dean Soileau.
Pallbearers will be Shane Council, Brady Council, Daris Council, Jeremi Council, Tony Leger, and Joseph Earlis Blackie Soileau, Jr.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, July 24, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Friday, the funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening in the funeral home.
