Evergreen Funeral services for Mrs. Genevieve Bienvenue Long, known to many as Gen, will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 19, 2006, in Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Bayou Rouge Baptist Church Cemetery in Evergreen.

Father Angelo Cremaldi will conduct the chapel services and Father Corkery will conduct the graveside services.

Mrs. Long was a longtime resident of Opelousas and died at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2006, in the Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas at the age of 86.

She was formerly a school teacher and worked as a social worker for the State Department of Welfare for many years. She was a graduate of the Sacred Heart College in Grand Coteau.

Survivors include three sons: Charles Long of Overton, TX; Mike Long of Baton Rouge; and John Long of Carencro; two daughters: Sherin Long Lafleur of Baton Rouge; and Nancy Long Bonner of Colleyville, TX; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Long; her parents, Ernest and Lydia Smith Bienvenue; 2 brothers, three sisters, and an infant son.

Visiting hours will be observed on Monday, December 18 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until time of services.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home.
