Gabriel Francis Jimmy Sibille, Jr.
Opelousas Funeral services for Gabriel Francis Sibille, Jr., known to many as Jimmy, age 73, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park.
Father James Lambert will celebrate the Mass.
Mr. Jimmy was a native of Bristol and was a longtime resident of Sunset. He died on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family.
After graduating from Sunset High School, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy. After spending 2 years in the Navy he attended Northwestern State College in Natchitoches earning a B.S. degree in Education. Later Jimmy received a Masters in Administration from L.S.U. He started his profession as a public school teacher. Sometime thereafter, he was promoted to Principal of Bristol Elementary and later became Principal of Sunset High School. He then served as supervisor of Transportation of the St. Landry Parish School System. He served 42 years in the Public School System. After his retirement, he applied for and received a Captains license. He was very active in the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary which he was especially proud of.
Jimmy enjoyed being outdoors, was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved going to his deer lease in North Louisiana with his buddies. He also spent time visiting with his family and friends. He was dedicated to supporting his grandchildren in all of their activities. He was a devoted husband, and a wonderful father, brother, and grandfather. He made many friends throughout his lifetime and never met a stranger. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mona Courvelle Sibille of Sunset one son, Scott Francis Sibille and wife, Tami of Bristol one daughter, Sophia Francine Sibille Gardner and husband, Stuart of Cankton three sisters, Shirley Devillier of Cankton Gladie Waters of Winnfield and Juanita Beaugh of Church Point three grandchildren Lee, Lainie, and Lucius Gardner and two step grandchildren Jade and Caitlyn Mooneyham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel F. Sibille, Sr. and Elizabeth Bourque Sibille and one brother, Norward Richard.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, December 9, 2011, from 2 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Saturday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home.
