Freddie Joseph Lavergne

Lawtell Funeral services for Mr. Freddie Joseph Lavergne, age 86, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bridget Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the St. Bridget Cemetery. The Reverend Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.

Mr. Lavergne was a native of Lewisburg and a past resident of Prairie Ronde. He was currently residing in Eunice. He passed away at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at the Oak Lane Nursing Home in Eunice. He was a farmer for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors taking care of his vegetable garden, flower garden and animals. He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Mary Lavergne of Eunice; two sons: Bert Lavergne and wife, Janet of Scott; and Dennis Lavergne and companion, Becky Stanford of Opelousas; one daughter, Zelda Lavergne Doucet and husband, Daniel of Hathaway; one stepson, Michael Courville and wife, Brenda of Grapevine, TX; one stepdaughter, Lanell Cormier and husband, Michael of Sulphur; one sister, Mabel Lavergne of Lake Charles; 8 grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 3 step great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his first wife, Lena Mae Bertrand Lavergne; two sisters: Lena Olivier and Lita LeJeune; two brothers: Otis Lavergne and Moise Lavergne; and one grandson, Travis Lavergne.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, January 26, 2009, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

A Rosary service will be held on Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
