Port Barre - A Mass of Christian Burial for Fred W. Codori will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Rev. Fr. Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Fred was a native of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and a longtime resident of Port Barre. He passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016, at his home at the age of 81. He worked for Ironworkers Local 623 for 25 years, Park Vista Elementary for 10 years, and Ken's Thrifty Way for 9 years. Fred was a US Navy veteran who proudly served his country for 4 years. He was also a past member of the American Legion Post. He was a very active parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church who served as an usher, counter, and Eucharistic Minister for Opelousas General Health System. He was also a past member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his children, Ragis Codori and his wife, Jutta of Port Barre; and Christine "Tina" Fontenot and husband, Stanley of Port Barre; two brothers, Charles Codori, Jr. of Buffalo, NY; and William Codori and wife, Shirley of Gettysburg, PA; three grandchildren, Nicholas Fontenot and wife, Heather; Malorie Vidrine and husband, Dustin; and Travis Codori; 4 great- grandchildren, Parker Fontenot, Liam Fontenot, Wyatt Vidrine, and Collin Vidrine.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Scruggins Codori, parents, Charles Codori, Sr. and Mae Shutter Codori; two sisters, Caroline Swisher and husband, Jay; and Jean Thompson and husband, Robert; and one sister-in-law, Rita Codori.
The visitation will begin on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. On Friday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
