Port Barre A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Evelyn Reed will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Rev. Fr. Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.
Evelyn was a native and longtime resident of Port Barre. She passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014, in the Opelousas General Health System at the age of 85. She was the previous owner of a beauty shop for 21 years. She was a seamstress for many years and also did quilting and sewing. She enjoyed being outdoors working in her flower beds and gardens. She was a very loving and caring wife, and a very devoted mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother who took great care of her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her three sons, John Reed and wife, Linda of Port Barre Dale Reed and wife, Pam of Port Barre and Warren Reed and wife, Donna of Port Barre three daughters, Katie Baham of Port Barre Jackie Mayer and husband, Ronald of Port Barre and Donna Fontenot of Opelousas friends of the family, Tony Fontenot and David Baham, both of Port Barre and Shane Fontenot of Opelousas 20 grandchildren, and 31 greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Reed her parents, John Savoie and Odelia Smith Savoie one greatgrandson, Cohen Ryder and numerous brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be Billy Reed, Jeremy Deville, Matt Baham, Chad Mayer, Jared Reed, and T. J. Fontenot.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 26, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A Rosary Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Monday evening in the funeral home.
