Evelyn Toups Comeaux
Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Toups Comeaux, age 88, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2010, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Evelyn was a native of Thibodaux, Louisiana, and was a resident of Opelousas for many years. She died on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at her residence.
Evelyn was a retired high school librarian and English teacher who served at Opelousas, Washington, Grand Prairie, and Thibodaux High Schools. She taught religious education for 18 years. She was an active member for 60 years with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 45 where she held many offices and coordinated Girls State and Poppy Day. She was a member of the Womans Service League, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and Delta Kappa Gamma.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, grandmother, and greatgrandmother.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Dalton J. Comeaux of Opelousas one daughter, Ann Carol McKinney and husband, David of St. Simons Island, Georgia two grandchildren: Kevin McKinney of Brunswick, Georgia and Karen Howell and husband, Steve of Jacksonville, Florida two greatgrandchildren: Carmen Elise and Matthew Dalton Howell of Jacksonville, Florida and two brothers: Carl Toups of Luling and Donald Toups and wife, Marion of Mandeville.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Sylvestre and Lydia Toups three brothers: Dave, Lynn and Blaise Toups and three sisters: Yvonne Uzee, Lucille Rhodes, and Lena Rau.
Pallbearers will be Kevin McKinney, Steve Howell, Joe Hidalgo, Robert Judge, Tom Edwards, and Kenneth Thibodaux.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, January 8, 2010, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. On Saturday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening in the funeral home.
