Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Evanus Fontenot, age 89, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Landry Catholic Church, interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Msgr. Louis Melancon will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.

Mr. Evanus was a native of the Chataignier area and was a longtime resident of Opelousas. He died on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at Eunice Manor Nursing Home in Eunice, La.

Mr. Evanus served his Country during WWII in the U.S. Navy and afterwards worked as a selfemployed bakery salesman. He was a member of the VFW post 2483, American Legion 203 and the Good Sam Club. Mr. Evanus played in several local French Music bands after teaching himself at the age of 69 to play the French Accordion. Mr. Evanus was a very loving husband, father and grandfather and is going to be missed by family and friends.

Survivors include his son, Alden Fontenot and wife Karen of Missouri City, TX daughter, Barbara St. Amand and husband Lionel of Opelousas sister, Bernice Fontenot of Eunice seven grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents Avio and Honesta Fontenot his wife, Essie Fontenot brothers, Leo Fontenot and Sidney Fontenot sister, Emily Catoire grandson ,Alden John Johnny Fontenot, Jr. and three great grandsons.

Pallbearers will be Rusty St. Amand, John Smith, Marine Gunnery Sgt. Kevin Fontenot, Buddy Dupre, Nick Miller and Mark Dupre. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Dupre, Holden St. Amand, Gavin Dupre, Austyn Stoltenburg, Jacob Stoltenburg and Andrew Stoltenburg.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, October 28, 2010, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Friday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening in the funeral home.
