Mrs. McCorrmick was born on November 24, 1923 in Cankton and was the daughter of Deogene Savoie Senior and Constance Burleigh Savoie.
After graduating from Sunset High School she joined the workforce of Willow Run, best known as Rosie the Riveters, dressed in overalls and bandana, a symbol of patriotic womanhood in the 1940s. While women performed what had been maledominated roles in plants all over the country during WW I I, Ethel was one of the 40,000 who toiled at the Ford Motor Company facility that churned out nearly 9,000 B24 Liberator bombers during the war
After the war she returned to Opelousas and was employed for many years at Abdallas in the Ready To Wear department, modeling and selling the finest and up to date womens clothing. By this time most of south Texas was occupied by Louisiana Cajuns who had been drawn to that area by the oil industry. She followed some of her friends to Texas and again found her comfort zone in womens clothing and again designing and selling womens clothing in several locations in Texas. With a full time job her passion for horses grew and was qualified as a member of the Jefferson County Sheriffs Horse Posse and participated in horse shows throughout the Southwest with her husband Lawrence Guilbeau. After his death she left the Posse and continued dealing in womens clothing for many more years. During this time she met and married Joe McCormick who had established auto glass shops in Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana.
Relocating to Lafayette and with the unexpected death of Joe, Ethel retired and spent the remaining years involved in church activities, Catholic retreats and family.
Left to cherish her memories is a sister, Lydia Savoie Sibille of Lafayette, a brother Lincoln Savoie and his wife Maggie of Sunset, a sisterinlaw, Dell Savoie of Scott and host of loving nieces, nephews and a very special and loving friend Ann Domengeaux.
Preceded in her death are her parents, Deogene Savoie Senior and Constance Burleigh Savoie, husbands Lawrence Guilbeau and Joe McCormick, brothers V.H. Savoie, Odell Savoie, and J.D. Savoie, sisters Bertha Savoie Mayo, and Louella Savoie Dorsey, brothersinlaw Cooper Mayo, M.B. Dorsey, Jr., and Horaist Sibille, nephew Tommy Sibille and niece Lou Dawn Dorsey.
The family would like to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown by nurse and niece Connie Dorsey, Doctor Ronald Jenkins, Alternative Home Care, Family Choice Care Hospice and Ken Elkins. May God bless all of you.
