Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Hidalgo Stanford 85, will be held at 12:00 p.m. noon on Tuesday, October 2, 2007, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park.
Father Francis Miller will officiate the services.
Mrs. Emma was a native and resident of Opelousas. She died at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at the Opelousas General Health System.
Mrs. Emma was a People Person and worked as a Teacher's Aide, Past Director of the Sertoma Daycare Center, and a Social worker for many years. She was a loving wife and a very devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was a sweet and wonderful Lady who always put God and family first. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. As a hobby, she enjoyed painting and her pastime was spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her nine children: Deanna Stanford Wootan of Baker; Donald Stanford and wife, Carol of Opelousas; Sherman Stanford and wife, Juanita of Opelousas; Judy Stanford St. Amand and husband, Paul of Opelousas; Steve Stanford and wife, Maggie of Smyrna, TN; Julien Stanford and wife, Sylvia of Crowley; Dwight Stanford and wife, Kayla of Forest Hill; Mary-Faith Stanford D'Avy and husband, Don of Opelousas; and Mark Stanford and life partner, Gerald Thibodeaux of Lafayette; one brother, Frank Hidalgo and wife, Helen of Opelousas; one sister, Ethel Reed of Baton Rouge; Special cousin and Caregiver, Ruby Stanford Smith of Opelousas; Gentleman friend, James Boudreaux of Opelousas; 37 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Roland Stanford; her parents, Felix Hidalgo, Sr. and Angelina Lee Hidalgo; 12 brothers and sisters, and her son-in-law, Eugene Wootan.
Visiting hours will be observed on Monday, October 1, 2007, from 11:00 a.m. -9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Tuesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Monday evening in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be her six sons and Honorary Pallbearers will be her sons-in-laws.
