Emery J. Marks
Leonville Funeral services for Emery J. Marks, 80, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday , July 10, 2007, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Leo Catholic Church, in Leonville. Interment followed in the St. Leo Church Cemetery in Leonville.
Rev. Paul Metrejean conducted the services.
Mr. Marks was a native of Leonville and a resident of Prairie Ronde. He died at 3:30 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Marks was a very caring and loving man to his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing with his family and his friends. He also raised crawfish on his property In Prairie Ronde. Mr. Emery will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Emery served his country with over twenty five years in the United States Air Force. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving his country with honor. He enlisted at the tail end of World War 2 and was honorably discharged in 1970. Mr. Marks received the following medals while serving his country; Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Army of Occupation Ribbon Japan, Victory Ribbon, One Overseas Service Bar, National Defense service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. During his tour of duty with the Air Force he was an Airplane Mechanic and was attached to Air Wings with Boomer duties.
After his final discharge he worked for many years Off Shore as an electrician.
Survivors include his wonderful wife, Mrs. Hazel Thibodeaux Marks; stepsons: Joseph Guidroz, Jr. and Camille Guidroz; stepdaughters: Elaine Aymond; and Rose Guidroz and husband, Phillip; all of Prairie Ronde, LA. Mr. Marks is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, 27 great-great grandchildren and his stepdaughter-in-law, Lorita Guidroz who was also his care giver.
Mr. Emery was preceded in death by his parents, Croiselle and Alta Lalonde Marks; stepson, Harold Guidroz, Sr.; stepdaughter, Barbara Higginbotham; stepson-in-law, Howard Aymond, Sr.; step grandson, Howard Aymond, Jr. and step great-grandson, Johnny Lee Aymond.
Visiting hours were observed on Monday, July 9, 2007, from 3 PM to 10 PM in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Tuesday, July 10, 2007, visitation continued from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM in the funeral home.
A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2007 in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas and was recited by Mr. Emery's grandson, Daniel Stelly.
