Opelousas- A Funeral Service will be held for Elwanda Marie Lafleur Bernard, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, in the Sibille Funeral Home. Fr. Austin Leger will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Elwanda, age 76, a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019.
Elwanda volunteered and coached for the Special Olympics. She was a route carrier for Daily World and worked for the Opelousas Development Center. Elwanda loved cooking with family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling and playing Pokeno.
She is survived by sons, Anthony “Tony” Bernard of Opelousas, Thomas Bernard and his wife, Shanna of Washington, Joseph Todd Bernard of Plaisance, Troy Bernard of Plaisance, and Mike Fontenot of Plaisance; one daughter, Phyllis Noel and her husband, Aron of Krotz Springs; grandchildren, Heather Noel, Alexis Bernard, Chassity Noel, Christian Bernard, Dylan Bernard, Jodie Noel, Toni Bernard, and Jacie Bernard; great grandchildren, Landon Angelle, Amaya Angelle, Gabriel Angelle, Jaiden Angelle, Elizabeth Aymond, Kyleigh Evans and Ayden Aymond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Yves Bernard; her parents, Gustave and Amelia Veillon Lafleur; and her sister, Eudie Lafleur.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Bernard, Dylan Bernard, Sage Leger, Landon Angelle, Shane Venable, and Aron Noel.
Honorary pallbearers Todd Bernard, Mike Fontenot, Troy Bernard and Tony Bernard.
