Opelousas Funeral services for Elvie S. Bertrand Ryder, 94, will be held at 10:00AM January 6, 2007, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.
Elvie S. Bertrand Ryder, a native of Grand Prairie and resident of Bunkie, died at 5:30PM Thursday January 4, 2007 at her residence.
Survivors include: two sons, John W. Bertrand Sr. and wife Theresa of Port Barre and Richard W. Bertrand of Vidor, TX; three daughters, Ethel B. Fogleman and husband Fred of Bunkie, Lurline B. Fontenot and husband Paul of Opelousas, and Dora B. Morris and husband Raymond of Denham Springs; a brother J.B. Smith of Sulphur; two sisters, Lou E. Smith and Anita Kraft of Sulphur; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Smith of Sulphur and Armede Smith of Palmetto; 17 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and 2 great- great grandchildren.
Mrs. Ryder was preceded in death by her parents, Arciuse and Odette Guilloumin Smith, husband Joseph Felix Bertrand and spouse Dewey A. Ryder; two brothers, Nolten and Carl Smith; two sisters, Ezoline S. Unsel and Ann S. Johnson.
Pallbearers will be John A., Anthony, and Floyd L. Fontentot, Troy J. Morris, John W. Bertrand, Jr. and John G. Bertrand.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas from 4:00-9:00PM Friday January 5, 2007 and reopen at 8:00AM on Saturday until service time. A rosary will be recited at 7:00PM on Friday.
