Elton Ryder, Sr.

Opelousas-Funeral services for Elton James "E.J." Ryder, Sr. will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, LA. Rev. Michael Fitzgerald will officiate the services. Burial will follow in the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.

E. J. was a resident of Port Barre. He died on Sunday, August 14, 2016, at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas at the age of 77. He enjoyed doing woodworking, drinking coffee, visiting with family, and watching old movies.

He is survived by his son, Elton James Ryder, Jr. of Scott; one grandson, Mason Gaige Ryder of Scott; two brothers, Roy Ryder of Kennesaw, GA; and Lawrence "Bubby" Ryder and wife, Loretta of Leonville; one sister, Leola Ryder of Leonville; brother-in-law, Ronald DeVillier of Port Barre; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Elton Ryder and Alphosine Savoie Ryder; his aunt and uncle who were his second parents that raised him, Simmie and Elodie James; and two sisters, Lorene "Cricket" Ryder and Leona Ryder DeVillier.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Wednesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.
