Elsie "Momee" Bellow

March 25, 1943 — May 31, 2022

Opelousas– A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Elsie “Momee” Mae Papillion Bellow on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Fr. Gregory Simien will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Ann Cemetery in Mallet.

Elsie, age 79, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at her residence in Swords.

Elsie enjoyed being outdoors working in her garden and playing cards with her family and friends. She was a dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Elsie will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Elsie is survived by her sons, Danny Ray Fontenot, Sr. of Cheeks,TX and Danny Bellow of Swords,LA; daughters, Brenda Guillory (Alfred), Nancy Gobert, Torry Lemelle (Dave) all of Swords,LA, Mary Geneva Guillory (Willie) of Basile, LA, Delores Joubert (Walter III) of Iowa, LA; brothers, Walman Papillion of Lake Charles, LA and Felton Papillion of Baytown, TX; sister, Marietha Mitchell of Ames, TX and Vernita Rivon of Raywood, TX; 23 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Elsie is preceded in death by her husband, Austin Bellow; sons, Joseph Randy Bellow and Joseph Kenneth Bellow; grandson, Anthony Fontenot; her parents, Theodule, Sr. and Hilda Papillion; brothers, Theodule Papillion, Jr., Hilton Papillion, Ozeya Papillion, Ozia Papillion; sisters, Anastasia Gobert and Mayola Ford; son-in-law, Daniel Gobert; and daughter-in-law, Renee Fontenot.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. The funeral home will reopen on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. The rosary will be recited at 8:45 a.m. by Deacon Jerome Collins.

Pallbearers will be Randy Guillory, Chad Guillory, Derrick Gobert, Adrian Bellow, Danté Gaines, Walter Joubert IV, Durel Gobert and Deontré Lemelle.
