Elmus Mcdaniel

Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Elmus McDaniel, age 89, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA. A Military Funeral service and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park. Rev. Pam Roy will officiate the services.
Mr. Elmus was born in Ville Platte and was a longtime resident of Opelousas. He died on Sunday, July 3, 2011, at his residence.
He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II who proudly served his country from September 1942 to January 1946. He served in the Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, and South Philippines as AAA Gun Crewman 2601 and Marksman Rifle II.
He was highly decorated with the American Defense Service Medal, AsiaticPacific Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and WW II Victory Medal.
He worked in the oilfield for many years for Gulf Oil and Chevron.
He enjoyed watching all sports events especially when his children or grandchildren were playing. He also enjoyed quail hunting for many years. He was of the Catholic Faith. He was a very loving and caring husband, a devoted father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hudson McDaniel of Opelousas one son, James Randolph Randy McDaniel and wife, Lois Marks McDaniel of Opelousas one daughter, Rise McDaniel Nicholson and husband, James L. Nicholson, Jr. of Sunset 5 grandchildren: Kelly Richard, Misty McDaniel, Carly Myers, Nick Nicholson, and Sarah Nicholson and 3 greatgrandchildren: Aiden Richard, Pierce Richard, and Emile Myers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Pomelia OConner McDaniel brothers: Lee McDaniel, Edward McDaniel, Arthur McDaniel, Paul McDaniel, Leonard McDaniel, and Thaddeus McDaniel and sisters: Mary Guillory, Lessie Johnson, and Hester Ortego.
Pallbearers will be Randy McDaniel, James Nicholson, Nick Nicholson, Brian Richard, Brach Myers, and Wade Hudson.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. On Wednesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
On Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at 10:15 a.m. the ReedDavis VFW Honor Guard of Port Barre will conduct a Veterans service in the Funeral Home.
