Ella Byrd Welch

Palmetto Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Mae Byrd Welch, 78, will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Palmetto Methodist Cemetery in Palmetto, LA.

Rev. Elaine Mouille will conduct the services.

Mrs. Welch was a native of the Palmetto area and a resident of Gonzales. She died at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2008, in her residence. She enjoyed planting flowers and caring for animals in her spare time. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include three daughters: Barbara Gayle McGee and husband, Dennis of Denham Springs; Debra Lynn Taylor and husband, Ralph Michael Taylor of Denham Springs; and Billy Rae Melancon and husband, Patrick Melancon, Sr. of Gonzales; one son-in-law, Lynnberg Hebert of Denham Springs; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Welsh was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Chuck Claude Welch; her parents, Walter Byrd and Mary Magdalen Palmer Byrd, one daughter, Beverly Jean Hebert; one stepson, Roger Dale Welsh; three brothers, Walter, James and Bill Byrd; and one sister, Lela Mae Hackett.

Visiting hours will be observed on Tuesday in the Sibille Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.
