Port Barre A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 18, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre, LA, for Mrs. Ella Mae Smith Soileau. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre, LA. Rev. Father Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.
Mrs. Soileau was a native of the Church Point area and longtime resident of Port Barre. She was currently residing at the Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas. She passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013, at Opelousas General Health System at the age of 90.
Spending time with her family was her life and cooking for them was a blessing. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre and attended Sunday Mass regularly. She was retired from the St. Landry Parish School Board with over 27 years of service as a cafeteria worker at Port Barre Elementary School. She was a wonderful, loving, and caring wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. She was a great friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Soileau and wife, Glenda of Port Barre and Robert Soileau of Port Barre one daughter, Beverly Williams of Baton Rouge one brother, Levoys Lee Smith of Opelousas two sisters, Juanita Babineaux and husband, Forest and Melba Latiolais and husband, Rhyney , all of Opelousas 4 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Soileau one son, Tommy Soileau one daughter, Barbara Clark her parents, ONeal Smith and Ernestine Carrier Smith two sisters, Lillian Bourgeois and Veota Boudreaux and two brothers, Levy Smith and Will Smith.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Kent, Kevin Clark, Blake Soileau, Lance Guidroz, Rhyney Latiolais, and Melvin Blue McGee.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Monday, February 18, 2013, from 12 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon in the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all helpful friends at Senior Village, everyone at Opelousas General Health System for there excellent care, a big thanks to Hospice Compassus, and a Special thanks to Dr. Louis Nix for his care and compassion.
