Edwin L. Ed Darbonne

Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Edwin L. Ed Darbonne, 80, will be held at 12: 00 PM noon on Saturday, September 22, 2007, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the St. Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville. Msgr. Louis Melancon will celebrate the Mass.

Mr. Darbonne, was born in Boscoville and a longtime resident of Opelousas. He died at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2007, at the Opelousas General Health System. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a food service supervisor with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Department for over 22 years. He was also a Salesman for Cash Drug Company for 30 years.

He was a Third Degree Knight and a Fourth Degree Knight and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1173. He was nominated as Knight of the Year for the Council. Bishop Jules Jeanmard Council with the Diocese of Acadiana presented him as a recipient of the Fleur de Lis. He served as Financial Secretary in the Knights of Columbus for over 20 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.

He was a loving husband and a devoted father, brother, and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Marie Kidder Darbonne of Opelousas; two sons: Richard Darbonne and wife, Kathy of Opelousas; and Todd Darbonne of Opelousas; one daughter, Melanie Comeaux and husband, Devin of Walker, LA; four brothers: Clifford Darbonne and wife, Genevieve of Opelousas; James Darbonne and wife, Bertha of Port Vincent; Leon Darbonne and wife, Hilda of Gonzales; and Seville Darbonne and wife, Alice of Arnaudville; two sisters: Sylvia Pearce and husband, W. A. Pearce of Port Barre; and Leona Dicapo and husband, Anthony of Krotz Springs; two grandchildren: Brandi McKenny and Heidi Darbonne.

Mr. Edwin was preceded in death by one daughter, Marie Elizabeth Beth Darbonne; his parents: Clef and Helen Wheaton Darbonne.

Visiting hours will be observed on Friday, September 21, 2007, from 10:00 a.m. -10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Saturday, visitation will continue from 8:00am until 11:30 a.m.

A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Pallbearers will be the St. Landry Parish Sherriff's Department Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Meche and Paul Dicapo.
