Edward Ed Verdino
Opelousas-Funeral services for Mr. Edward Verdino will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 23, 2007, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park.
Father Angelo Cremaldi will officiate the Mass.
Edward Verdino, 80, a resident of Opelousas since 1971, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2007, after suffering a stroke in early December. Ed was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, where he owned a successful terrazzo business before beginning his career with New York Life Insurance Company. He continued his career with NYLIC after moving his family to Louisiana in 1969. He was a respected local businessman who spent 37 years helping many clients of his insurance business, in addition to other ventures around Opelousas. These ventures included his third career, that of building and managing apartment buildings, first in Chicago, and then in Opelousas. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S Navy, and was also a member and an usher of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. He enjoyed spending his free time caring for his large garden and many fruit trees as well as his building projects.
Ed was a dedicated and loving husband and father and will be sorely missed by members of his caring family: Annette Basco Verdino, his loving wife of 60 years; son, Guy Sr. and wife, Jane, daughters, Gail and husband Tom, and daughter, Lucia. He is also leaves his grandchildren: Guy Jr. and his wife, Candace, Gregory and his wife, Jennifer, Andrew, Sarah, Monica and her husband, Michael, and Madeline and her husband, Lazlo. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren. He will be missed by his many brothers and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends.
Viewing will be held on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Sunday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday evening in the funeral home.
Pall Bearers will be Thomas Feske, Andrew Feske, Joseph Wilson,
Stanwood Nazat, Warren Basco, and Vernon Pastorick.
