Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial for Edna Mae Dekerlegand, age 85, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2010 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Reverend Dan Picard will celebrate the Mass.
Mrs. Dekerlegand was a native of Port Barre and a resident of Opelousas. She died on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at 6:21 a.m. in the Senior Village Nursing Home. She worked with the Council On Aging and worked with the elderly as a sitter. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.
Survivors include six sons: Milton Dekerlegand and wife, Joyce of Opelousas Mason Dekerlegand and wife, Barbara of Opelousas Malcolm Dekerlegand and wife, Janice of Leonville Norman Dekerlegand and wife, Rose of Opelousas Mitchell Dekerlegand and wife, Peggy of Arnaudville and Melvin Dekerlegand and wife, Jennifer of Cecilia seven daughters: Dean David of Leonville Marie David and husband, A.J. of Opelousas Melda Faul of Eunice Margie Dekerlegand and companion, Luke Hardy of Cankton Marilyn Angelle and husband, Pip of Opelousas Mona Stanford and husband, Brian of Port Barre and Melanie Daigle and husband, Morris of Eunice 42 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, and 12 greatgreat grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Isabella Cortez of Breaux Bridge one brother, Robert Bud Bazar of Krotz Springs and several step great grandchildren and step greatgreat grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eddie Dekerlegand son, Murphy Dekerlegand parents, Gilbert Bazar and Linda Lacosta Bazar brothers, Edward, Lloyd, Dudley, Allen, and Clarence Bazar sister, Ella Mae Sanchon soninlaw, Carroll David 3 grandsons, Kevin Dekerlegand, Eddie Dekerlegand and Stoney Angelle and one granddaughter, Mindy Dekerlegand.
The family requests visiting be observed on Sunday, December 19, 2010 from 5:00 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
