Edith Huckaby Lafleur

Opelousas- Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Huckaby Lafleur, age 95, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 24, 2009, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Interment followed in the Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Richard, LA.

Bro. Dore Langley, Pastor Wallace Millsaps and Pastor Weldon Moak officiated the service.

Edith was a native of the Light and Tie community near Eunice and was currently residing in Broussard. She passed away at her residence on December 21, 2009, surrounded by her family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, listening to audio books on tapes, and reading when she was able. She also loved spending time with new born babies.

Survivors include her sons: Edward Dangler, Jr. of Ville Platte; Rufus L. Nelands of Lake Charles; and Wayne Bihm of Westlake; two step sons: Patrick Lafleur and Robert Lafleur, both of Basile; daughters: Mrs. Etta Vannoy of Broussard; Mrs. Nora Shepherd of Campbellsburg, IN; Mrs. Nancy Grasshoff of Richardson, TX; Mrs. Betsy Adams of Livingston, AL; Mrs. Ruby Doucet of Eunice; Mrs. Gail Reviere of Washington; and Mrs. Pearl Squires of Jeanerette; thirty seven grandchildren,

seventy-nine great- grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Thomas and Agnes Shaw Huckaby; her first husband, Amos Nelams; and her second husband, Percy Lafleur, Jr.; her son, David Lafleur; her daughter, Mrs. Barbara Deshotels; two sisters: Margery Houfpauier and Lelia Carter; her brothers: James Huckaby, Albert Huckaby, Dennis Huckaby, Hugh Huckaby, and Charles Huckaby; and three grandchildren.

Visiting hours were observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, from 5 p.m. 9 p.m. On Thursday, visitation continued in the funeral home from 8 a.m. 11 a.m.
