OpelousasA Mass of Christian Burial for Dudley Mike Gallagher, Jr. will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, in the St. Landry Catholic Church. Fr. James Brady will celebrate the Mass.
Mike was a longtime resident of Opelousas. He passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014, at his home at the age of 65.
Mike graduated high school from Jesuit High School in New Orleans, LA., graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor Degree, graduated from UL with his Masters Degree in Business. While at UT, he enjoyed playing football as a tight end and defensive end and he remain faithful to the Texas football team. He spent 3 years in the Marine Corp as a Staff Sergeant. He served 2 terms as the President of the Lions Club and he also served in other offices. He enjoyed his work as an Investment Broker. Mike was an avid reader and that was one of his greatest joys. He also enjoyed history and would share his knowledge with everyone. He loved spending time with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all.
Survivors include his wife of 36 yrs Diane Doucet Gallagher of Opelousas, his children, Mike Gallagher of Opelousas, Elizabeth Gallagher, of Knoxville, TN, and Kathleen and her husband, Seth Glasscock of Opelousas, sisters, Peggy and her husband, John Isby of Alaska, Dr. Patricia Gallagher and her husband, Dr. Tom Helms, of Austin TX., Jean and her husband, Jack Alford of Orlando, Fl., and Kay and her husband, Dr. Bob Herrick of San Jose, CA., and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley Sr., and Mary Reagan Gallagher, son, Steven Gallagher, brother, William Gallagher.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, from 5:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 6 in the funeral home on Tuesday.
