Dudjay Papop Joseph Mallet
OpelousasFuneral services for Dudjay Joseph Mallet, known to many as Papop, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville. Burial will follow in the St. Leo Cemetery Mausoleum. Father Curt Mallet, Mr. Dudjays nephew, will celebrate the Mass.
Mr. Dudjay was a longtime resident of Platin, the rural area between Arnaudville and Leonville. He died at the age of 84 on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, in the Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
He was a U. S. Navy Veteran who proudly served his country during WWII. He recently received the Medal of Honor for his military service which was issued by Gov. Bobby Jindal. He was a member of the VFW of Arnaudville.
He was a family man who was known for his truth, honor, and integrity. He was a farmer all of his life and enjoyed growing many things including cabbage, corn and potatoes. Gardening and tending to his sheep were a few of his many treasured pastimes.
He was the pillar of faith for his family and practiced what he preached. All who knew him would describe him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was quick witted and never short for words especially with his jokes.
He was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville. He was an Eucharistic Minister for over 20 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mrs. Aspazie Duplechin Mallet of Arnaudville one son, Alvin Mallet and wife, Emmaline of Arnaudville four daughters: Ethel M. Patin and husband, Carrol of Arnaudville Betty M. Taylor and husband, Elrick of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee Linda M. Artigue and husband, Michael of Arnaudville and Theresa M. Benoit and husband, Kenneth of Arnaudville 17 grandchildren and 21 greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Emar Mallet and Marie Lanclos Mallet and his brother, John Dudley Mallet and one greatgranddaughter, Ludy Patin.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. On Saturday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening in the funeral home.
