Dr. Alban E. Gato Williams
Opelousas Funeral services for Dr. Alban E. Williams, 85, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday August 16, 2007, at the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park.
The Reverend Paul Metrejean will conduct the services.
Musical selections will be performed by Jodi Bollich.
Dr. Williams was born in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, lived most of his life in Opelousas, and was currently residing in Lafayette. He died on Monday August 13, 2007 at 4:10PM at Doctor's Hospital of Opelousas.
Dr. A.E. Williams, after graduating from Tulane Medical School In 1947, began his medical profession in the United States Army Medical Core, serving in Panama and Germany. Following an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army In 1951, he completed a residency in Advanced General Practice at Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette, LA. Several physicians from Opelousas interacted with Dr. Williams during his residency and encouraged him to start a General Medical practice in Opelousas in 1952. With enthusiasm and good cheer, he had the honor and privilege of serving the community surrounding Opelousas for 50 years until retirement in 2002. During his long and illustrious career, Dr. Williams served as the St. Landry Parish Coroner for 14 years, he began the first homebound health care service in Opelousas, and he was the co-founder of the Senior Village Nursing Home and the Doctor's Hospital of Opelousas.
Besides his magnificent career as a Physician, Dr. Williams had a great love of horticulture, photography, travel, hunting, and many other hobbies, but his true passion was being with and helping people. He will be missed by all whom he has touched.
