Dorothy Lavergne Meche

Leonville- Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Lavergne Meche, age 79, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the St. Leo Cemetery in Leonville.

Father Kenneth Domingue will celebrate the Mass.

Mrs. Dorothy was a native of Church Point and life-long resident of Leonville. She died on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home.

She was the Town Councilwoman for the Town of Leonville from November 1986-present. She also owned and operated- Dorothy L. Meche Antiques in Leonville since 1974. She was a member of the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and the Ladies' Altar Society. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and people in the community.

Mourning his death yet cherishing her memories are one son, David Meche and wife, Judy of Leonville; one brother, Collins Lavergne and wife, Elizabeth Liz of Leonville; two grandchildren: Jason Meche and wife, Christina of Leonville; and Kelly Meche Solet and husband, John of Martinsburg, West Virginia; and two great-grandchildren: Andre' Meche and Sawyer Solet.

The family would like to extend special thanks to several people that gave special care and assistance to Mrs. Dorothy during her time of need: her friends and caregivers: Lillie Meyers and Bernice Lanclos; and close friends: Gene and Shirley Robin and Bobby and Sue Degueyter.

Preceded in death by her husband, August R. Meche; parents: Felix and Mary Hazel Higginbotham Lavergne; brothers: Alex Lavergne, Berchman Lavergne, and Bernard Lavergne; and one sister, Viola Meche.
