PORT BARRE- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Dorothy Vidrine Aymond on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Fr. Clint Trahan will celebrate the mass. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service; the rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. A grave side service will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
Dorothy Vidrine Aymond, born on August 9, 1936, in the charming town of Garland, Louisiana, departed from this earthly world on October 14, 2024, at the age of 88, at Opelousas General Hospital. Her departure leaves not just a void in the hearts of those who loved her but also a profound legacy of warmth, kindness, and culinary mastery that will be fondly remembered for generations to come.
Known as the famous chef of the family, Dorothy had an extraordinary gift for turning simple ingredients into magical delights, bringing family and friends together around the table. Each meal was an invitation, a testament to her dedication and passion, and her spirit was poured into every spoonful.
A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Dorothy embodied selflessness and generosity. Her heart overflowed with love, touching all who had the privilege of knowing her. With hands that worked tirelessly, she never shied away from a challenge, always striving to brighten someone else's day. Her laughter filled homes, and her gentle words soothed troubled souls.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Brenda Sonnier and husband, Kirby of Eunice; 3 grandchildren, Keisha Sonnier, Joshua Sonnier, Nikke Langlinais and husband, Buck; 8 great-grandchildren, Cole Sonnier, Brice Marcantel, Lane Marcantel, Chloe Marcantel, Kohen Sonnier, Xander Langlinais, Rory Langlinais and Slade Langlinais; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Addilyn Marcantel, Brooks Manning, Juliet Marcantel and Ellie Kate Sonnier.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Lannie J. Aymond; parents, Robert Lee and Ola Vidrine; brother, Wilbur Lee “Jacko” Vidrine; sister, Betty Vidrine Artigue; brother-in-law, Ronald Artigue.
Though she has left this earthly realm, Dorothy's essence will linger in our memories and the recipes she so lovingly crafted. With enduring love, we will carry her spirit forward, honoring her legacy in each cherished gathering that echoes with her laughter and flavors inspired by her heart.
