Doris Collins

Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial for Doris Rita Trahan Collins, age 89, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2015, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the St. Landry Cemetery. Fr. Jerry Mesley will celebrate the Mass.

Doris was a resident of Opelousas, and passed away on Friday, January 23, 2014 in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.

She was born on March 28, 1925 in Port Arthur, Texas. She graduated from T.H. Harris School as an LPN in the 5th class on July 22, 1955. She worked at the St. Landry Hospital and later at the St. Landry Clinic for Dr. L. Lazaro Sr. and before her retirement in 1985 as a switch board operator. Doris was a beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Arthur P. "Red" Collins, Jr. of Opelousas, her daughter, Doris Ann Collins of Opelousas, her sons, Glenn P. "Bubba" Collins of Opelousas, and J. Neil Collins of New Iberia, one brother, Lee Allen Trahan of Opelousas, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, Emethilde and Rucius Trahan, her sisters, Milda, Eva, Ida, Mable and Lucy her brothers, Percy, Nolan, Ray, Floyd and Roland.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, January 25, 2015, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Rosary service will be held on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
