Dolores Mestayer Perkins

Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Dolores Mestayer Perkins, 82, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2009, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas. Rev. Perry Hubbs will officiate the services.

Mrs. Dolores was born in Kaplan and was a life long resident of Opelousas. She passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at 2:50 p.m. in the Opelousas General Health System.

Mrs. Perkins was married to Mr. John Ray Perkins and they spent 60 wonderful years together. She attended SLI in Lafayette for two years. During her working career, she began as a court reporter for Judge Leslie Gardiners Court. Then, she was the Vice President for St. Landry Lumber Company and worked for the company for many years. She was also a Pink Lady Volunteer at Doctors Hospital for many years. She was a member of the Lunch Bunch. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, driving her convertibles, ceramics, and painting. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She offered huge support to her children in all their endeavors. She also loved her puppy, Puggy. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. She loved her family and cherished her sisters dearly. She is going to be sadly missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her husband, John Ray Perkins, Sr. of Opelousas; one daughter, Lorraine Perkins of Opelousas; five sons: John Ray Perkins, Jr. and wife, Yvonne of Opelousas; Christopher Chris Perkins of Opelousas; Summers Perkins and wife, Joelyn of Gonzales; David Perkins of Atlanta, GA; and Austin Perkins and wife, Angie of Opelousas; one sister: Lorraine M. Boudreaux of Baton Rouge; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Percy and Norma Summers Mestayer; her sister, Rose Marie M. Bienvenu; and stepfather, Judge Leslie Gardiner.

Pallbearers will be John Ray Perkins III, Christopher Perkins, Jamie Perkins, Jordan Perkins, Nicholas Perkins, and Kalem Perkins. Honorary pallbearer will be Andy Perkins.

Visiting hours will be observed on Friday, January 30, 2009, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Mrs. Dolores to Ochsner Health System Department of Philanthropy, 1514 Jefferson Highway , BH 240, New Orleans , Louisiana 70121.

The Perkins family would like to thank Dr. Eric Amy of Opelousas and Dr. Patrick Juneau III of Lafayette for their compassion and special care given to Mrs. Dolores during her illness.
