Opelousas Funeral Service for David Wayne Bellard, Jr. age 38, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2014, in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA. Interment will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery in Lawtell, LA. Rev. Benny Reppond will conduct the Services.
David was a lifelong resident of Lawtell, LA. He also resided in Washington, LA for a brief time. He died tragically on Monday, September 8, 2014, in Morganton, North Carolina where he had resided since November 2013. On Monday, September 8, 2014, he packed his belongings, and planned to start his drive back home to Lawtell, LA that day. He was moving back home permanently. There was foul play, and his death is being investigated as a homicide.
He was a 1994 graduate of Northwest High School. He received a certification in nondestructive testing from T.H. Harris in Opelousas, LA. He worked for XRI, Philco, Milburn, and Ventura prior to a disability due to back injury. David had a big, kind, and giving heart. His loves were music, specifically playing his drums, family, friends, cooking, and Renaissance Festivals. When spending time with family and friends, he was very loving and affectionate. He was so excited to finally be moving back home. His smile and laugh were contagious. He was a very spiritual person, believing that nature and compassion were the true higher powers of this world.
Survivors include his parents: David, Sr. and Paula Boudreaux Bellard of Lawtell, LA his sister, Pam Whittington and her husband, Doug of Washington, LA and his three nephews, Alex also his Godchild, Bryce, and Gavin Whittington of Washington, LA. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Joyce Bellard of Opelousas and his paternal grandparents, Verbie and Alcee Red Boudreaux, Jr. of Lawtell. He is also survived by his Godchild, Mindy Darbonne of Lawtell, LA.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Noah Bellard, Jr. of Port Barre, LA.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas on Thursday, September 18, 2014 beginning at 3:00 p.m. with a Rosary service recited at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. There will be an all night wake until time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
