Dalton Gary

Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial for, Dalton J. Gary, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will celebrate the mass. Rite of Committal will follow in the Leroy Cemetery in Leroy, La.

Mr. Dalton, was a resident of Opelousas for the past 65 years. He passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family at the age of 90. Mr. Dalton retired from Exxon after 30 years. He was an avid shrimper, fisherman, builder, hunter, and cook. He enjoyed many weekends spent at his camp in Holly Beach, La. entertaining his family and friends alike.

Mr. Dalton is survived by one son and best friend, Barney Gary and wife, Frannie of League City, TX; two daughters, Patty Gary Pitre and husband, Dwayne of Sunset, Melissa Gary Lancon and husband, Kevin of League City, TX; five grandchildren, Chad Mergist, Caitlin Gary Thomas, Kelsey Gary, Logan Lancon and Lauren Lancon; four great-grandchildren, Dylan and Tanner Mergist, Coralie and Camelia Thomas; step-great-grandchild, Jesse Dossey; and one sister, Dean Gary LeBlanc.

Mr. Dalton was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Mabel Louise Gary; parents, Ovey and Amelie Gary; two brothers, Chester and Eljay Gary; and two sisters, Mamie Gary Badeaux and Betty Gary.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. A Rosary Service will be held on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. till 9:30 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Barney Gary, Dwayne Pitre, Chad Mergist, Kevin Lancon, Logan Lancon and Dylan Mergist. Honorary pallbearers will be Tanner Mergist, Frank Thomas and Drew Brunkhorst.
