Dalton Comeaux

OPELOUSAS- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for, Mr. Dalton J. Comeaux, on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. The Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Comeaux, a resident of Opelousas, died at 3:05 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Opelousas General Health System surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his daughter, Ann Carol McKinney and her husband David, of St. Simons Island, Georgia; grandchildren, Kevin McKinney and wife, Logan, of Brunswick, Georgia, and Karen Howell and husband Steve, of Jacksonville, Florida; and three great-grandchildren, Carmen Elise, Matthew Dalton and Katie Renee Howell all of Jacksonville, Florida.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Toups Comeaux; parents, Ernest and Emedia Comeaux; five brothers, Odeon, Lee, Tite, Honore, and Dallas; and three sisters, Elodie Comeaux, Paula Magnon and Lucy LeBlanc.

Mr. Comeaux served his country proudly for two years in the United States Army during World War II. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 45 for 60 years where he held many local and district offices. Mr. Comeaux was involved in activities such as American Legion Baseball, Boys and Girls State, and Poppy Day. He served as the American Legion State Commander; and also served on several state and national committees. As a retired county agricultural agent, he worked for 25 years in St. Landry Parish for the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. Mr. Comeaux also worked in Tunis, Tunisia, for five years for the U.S. Agency for International Development. He organized the St. Landry Parish Cattlemen's Association, where he served as a dedicated member. He was an active member in the Louisiana County Agents Association, Louisiana Cattlemen's Association, Our Lady Queen of Angels Ushers Society, Knights of Columbus Council 1173 and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. An American Legion Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, followed by a Rosary Service at 5:15 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

Mr. Comeaux's family would like to extend a special thanks to, Cheryl Dobbs, for all of the wonderful love and care she showed to their father.
