Opelousas – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Curtis "Black" Soileau on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. MSGR. Keith DeRouen will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Rite of committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Curtis, age 87, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at St. Joseph Hospice Carpenter House in Lafayette, LA surrounded by his family.
Curtis is survived by his wife, 66 years of marriage; Anna Belle Bertrand Soileau of Opelousas, two sons; John Wayne Soileau of Winnie, Texas, Bryan Soileau and wife Cindy of Maurice, three daughters; Sharon Soileau Higginbotham and husband Mike of Opelousas, Janet Lavergne and husband Bert of Scott, Mona Coulter and husband Michael of Lafayette, seventeen grandchildren; Christy Stelly, Mikey Higginbotham, Mindy Holland, Chris Soileau, Brent Soileau, John Curtis Soileau, Johanna Soileau, Damian Soileau, Johnathan Soileau, Samantha Molaison, Katie Soileau, Emily Hulin, Brandon Duhon, Amanda Duhon, Ashley Theriot, Morgan Broussard, Mitchell Coulter. Twenty-one Great Grandchildren and one Great Great Grandchild due in June.
Curtis is preceded in death by parents; Mark Soileau and Lezima Fontenot Soileau, one brother; Hubert Soileau, three sisters; Verdine Meche, Jerry Dean Veillion, Joyce Dupre, and two grandsons: Chad and Donovan Soileau.
Mr. Soileau was a mechanic, who owned and operated Soileau's Repair Shop in Opelousas for 25 years. He also taught for 33 years as a mechanic instructor at Eunice Vocational School.
The family would like to say a special thanks to the Lafayette General Staff and the St. Joseph Hospice Carpenter House Staff.
In Lieu of flowers, family request donations in memory of Mr. Soileau to St Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 1:00 p.m.
