Opelousas Memorial services for the life of Curtis James Red Bubba Leger, age 77, will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Opelousas. Father Pete Smith will officiate the services.
He was a native of Leonville and a longtime resident of Opelousas. He died on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Lafayette General Medical Center. He was an offshore Rig electrician for many years. He was also a U. S. Navy Veteran who proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict.
To most he was known as Red, but to his family he was Bubba, and affectionately known as PawPaw by his grandchildren.
One of his passions and a legacy passed on to his children and grandchildren was his great love of the outdoors. An avid outdoorsman and living off of the land, he enjoyed many adventures. He loved traveling, diving, woodworking, gardening, and tending to his many exotic animals. From his Cajun culture, he loved cooking for his family and friends. In addition, he was a creative woodworker and enjoyed his many projects.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Wilson Leger of Opelousas three sons, Don Curtis Leger and wife, Jeanette of Opelousas Hunter Leger and Chase Leger, both of Opelousas one daughter, Lynette Leger Angelle and husband, Frank of Opelousas one daughterinlaw, Andrea Marrero Leger of Baton Rouge one brother, Ronald Ronnie Leger and wife, Pat of Opelousas one sister, Faith Domingue and husband, Pat of Opelousas 9 grandchildren, and 13 greatgrandchildren. He also has a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his son, John W. Johnny Leger grandson, Frank Frankie Angelle, Jr. sister, Beverly Leger Rivette Fontenot and his parents, Alphonse Leger and Marie Rena Leger.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caretaker, Denise Comeaux for her special care.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 1103 South Union Street, Opelousas, LA, 70570, on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. A reception will be held in the church hall immediately following the memorial services.
