Clayton Joseph Babineaux
Grand Coteau Funeral services for Mr. Clayton Joseph Babineaux, age 70, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau. Interment will follow in the St. John's Cemetery in Lafayette. Father Floyd Calais will celebrate the Mass.
Musical selections for the Mass will be provided by Julee Bundy, Jen Sonnier and Gina Arnaud. The selections will include: Be Not Afraid, Isaiah 49, How Great Thou Art, Come to Jesus and Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory.
The readers for the Mass will be Gayle LeDoux and Betty Broussard. The gifts will be presented by Casie Babineaux, Maggie Stelly and Sr. Claude De Moustier.
Eucharistic ministers will be Michelle Mixon and Dr. Harold LeDoux.
Mr. Babineaux was born in Cankton and was long time resident of Sunset. He passed away at 6:20 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2008, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Babineaux was a 1957 graduate of Sunset High School and also attended SLI in Lafayette. He worked as an optician for 38 years with Dr. Harold LeDoux. He was an alderman for the town of Sunset for 30 years. He was mutual manager for Evangeline Downs for 25 years and served as a Justice of the Peace for six years.
He was a U. S. Army Veteran who proudly served his country during the Korean era.
He was a warm, kind, and prayerful Christian man; a devoted Catholic and an active member of St. Charles Borremeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with family and friends mainly cooking for them in his Barn the outdoor kitchen. He loved being outdoors doing lawn care, gardening and fishing. He had a contagious optimism about life. He exemplified the term joie de vivre. He was truly a friend, relative and neighbor extraordinaire. He was a Jack of all trades. He was quick to help out, so he was called on by everyone to help with moving, painting, repairing, plumbing or any other problem. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 years, Mrs. Cynthia Boudreau Babineaux of Sunset; one daughter, Sarah Bolfer and husband, Cody of Sunset; his mother, Sarah Hernandez Babineaux of Carencro; two brothers: Elmo Joseph Babineaux and wife, Jana of Lafayette; and Larry Joseph Babineaux and wife, Patsy of Cankton; one granddaughter, Hannah Bolfer of Sunset; two sisters-in-law: Gayle LeDoux and husband, Dr. Harold LeDoux of Lafayette; and Kim Andrus and husband, Abby of Grand Coteau; two brothers-in-law: Jude Boudreau and Keith Boudreau, both of Sunset; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
He was preceeded in death by his father, Duclise Babineaux; and his brother, Albert Joseph Babineaux.
Pallbearers will be Ted LeDoux, Marc LeDoux, Cody Bolfer, Fred Babineaux, George Stelly, and Dr. Tynes Mixon. Honorary Pallbearers will be Keith and Jude Boudreau, Elmo and Larry Babineaux, Abby Andrus, Dr. Harold LeDoux, and his beloved patients.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Grand Coteau on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, from 3:00 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Wednesday, visitation will continue from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services.
The rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Mr. Clayton Babineaux to the Schools of the Sacred Heart of Grand Coteau.
