Chester Darbonne

Opelousas -Memorial services for Mr. Chester B. Darbonne will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, LA.

Mr. Darbonne was a native of Prairie Ronde and a long time resident of Prairie Ronde. He died on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette at the age of 78. He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran who proudly served his country. He was the previous Captain with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Department where he worked for 9 years. He also owned and operated his own transportation company for many years. He enjoyed watching Westerns, going fishing, and gardening. He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 1048 of Opelousas and the Cops and Kids Program.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Geraldine "Jerrie" Bertrand Darbonne of Prairie Ronde; one son, Gary Darbonne of DeRidder; four daughters, Debbie Savoy and husband, Chris of Krotz Springs; Evana Goudeau and husband, Val of Lafayette; Sheila Hayes and husband, Rusty of Bunkie; and Cynthia Romero and husband, Junior of Rayne; one sister, Priscilla Chachere of Prairie Ronde; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He also had a host of foster grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Gene Darbonne; his parents, Anson Darbonne and Kate Dupre Darbonne; grandson, Clyde Bergeron, Jr.; and his brother-in-law, Frank Chachere.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016, 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.
