Opelousas- A Funeral Service will be held for Cheryl Myers on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Deacon Jerome Collins will officiate the service. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Recitation of the Rosary will be on October 5, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. until time of service in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Lower Waxia Cemetery in Waxia, La.
Cheryl Bihm Myers, age 73, passed away Sunday morning October 2, 2022, at home after battling Neuromyelitis Optica (Devics disease), an auto immune condition.
Cheryl is survived by her daughter, Monique Michele Myers; son, Jeremy Quinn Myers; mother, Mary Hazel Bellard Bihm; brother, Robert Steven Bihm (Susan); Grandson, Colin Layne Myers; granddaughter, Sydney Adysen Myers; step grandson, Spencer B Mudge and her devoted very best friend Judy Poulet, along with many other close friends, nieces and nephews.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Field Myers, and her father Robert Louis Bihm.
Cheryl graduated from college with a Masters +30, in education. She worked for the State of Louisiana welfare department prior to working for the St. Landry parish school system for 30 years, where she retired as a school principal. She was active in her community and was a member of the GFWC Les Dames d’Etude. She was an accomplished artist and craftsman and her beautiful work can be seen throughout the area as well as hanging in most of her family and friends’ home. She loved hunting, fishing, playing cards, garage selling and antique shopping as well as history and genealogy. She is the published author of “Palmetto the Early Years”, “History of Port Barre”, “Washington La, A Steamboat Town”, “The Bihm Family”, “The Bellard Family” and was in the process of completing a book on the Myers lineage. Cheryl was in constant demand for her creative expertise. She was always planning her next project and the first to volunteer to help a friend with theirs. She was a celebrity in her own right throughout her community.
Monique would like to extend a special thank you to all of the wonderful staff and nurses of LTAC and LHC Hospice of Opelousas, as well as her mom’s wonderful, loving, gentle caretaker Becky McGuire.
Pallbearers will be Steven Bihm, Jeremy Myers, Colin Myers, Clay Myers, Michael Bihm and Billy Poulet. Honorary pallbearers are Donavon Lewis and Tom Poulet.
