Charles Kingsley Veltin, Sr.

Opelousas Funeral services for Charles Kingsley Veltin, Sr., 79, will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, March 21, 2007, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

The Reverend Pete Smith will conduct the services.

Charles Kingsley Veltin, Sr. or affectionately known as Uncle Jelly, was a native and resident of Opelousas. He died at 8:30PM on Thursday March 15, 2007 at his residence.

Kingsley graduated from Opelousas High School where he really enjoyed boxing and participating in many other athletics. Kingsley served our country during World War II in the the United States Navy. He was assigned to a Mine Sweeper Operation in the South Pacific from 1944-1945.

Mr. Veltin was an honorary member of the Masonic Lodge and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1048.

He worked for Superior Oil Company as a Wireline Operator for many years. Kingsley held the patent of the invention and design of the Quick Lock Drill Bit which is used to this day in the production of oil drilling.

Kingsley is the former owner of Toby's Little Lodge Dinner Club in Opelouas. There were great times to be had at the Dinner Club when Kingsley was around. He was a great Chef, with wonderful skills for preparing unforgettable dishes He was a member of a private Chefs Club, Cooks Unlimited, which was started in 1950. The club had a charter membership of 24 chefs. Kingsley and his fellow Chef's concocted many well known and traditional Louisiana favorites.
