Port BarreA Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre, LA, for Mr. Charles Joseph Marks. Rite of Committal, Military Funeral Honors Service, and interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Reverend Father Daniel Picard will be the celebrant of the Funeral Mass.
Mr. Charles was born in Cecilia, LA, and was a longtime resident of Port Barre. He passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at his home at the age of 83. He was a supervisor for the Teche Vermilion Pumping Station in Krotz Springs for over 11 years until his retirement. He was also a U. S. Army Veteran who proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 334 and the Reed Davis Military Honor Guard for Funerals. He enjoyed fishing and gardening in his spare time. He was a devoted husband, and a loving and caring father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mrs. Dorothy Leger Marks of Port Barre two sons, Danny Stoute and wife, Maxine of Port Barre and Charles Keith Marks and wife, Faith of Port Barre one brother, Jean Merrick Marks of Opelousas one sister, Anna Jane Marks of Lafayette 5 grandchildren, 15 greatgrandchildren, and 1 greatgreatgrandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amar Marks and Justine Arceneaux Marks his daughter, Jackie Lynn Stoute Frey two brothers, Joseph Marks and Amar Dudley Marks one sister, Mable M. Kidder and one grandson, Staff Sgt. Jarred Seth Fontenot.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 14, 2012, from 4 pm to 10 pm in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8 am until 10:30 am in the funeral home. A Rosary service will be held at 7 pm on Monday evening in the funeral home.
