Charles Fontenot, Jr.

Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA, for Mr. Charles Raymond Fontenot, Jr. , known to many as Raymond. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA.

Rev. Msgr. Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. The readings will be done by Gwen Ragusa and Sheree Quebedeaux. The gifts will be presented by Dr. Stacey Macip and Rachel Junot. Musical selections will be provided by Richard Sellers.

Raymond was a native and longtime resident of Opelousas. He passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at his home at the age of 85.

He was a past graduate of AIC. He was a proud Eagle Scout and was a U. S. Army Veteran who served his country during WWII. He worked with the Opelousas Fire Dept. until Fire District 3 was formed where he retired with 26 years of service. As a pastime, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and doing auto body repair work. He was a lifetime member of the LA State Firemens Association. He was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He was a wonderful, loving, and caring husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include one son, Craig Fontenot and wife, Kesia of Opelousas one daughter, Lauri Bond and husband, Clay of Denham Springs soninlaw, Marvin Macip of Opelousas three brothers, Goldman Fontenot and wife, Wienola Kitty of Zachery J. C. Fontenot and Warren Fontenot, both of Lawtell two sisters, Norma Lee Fontenot and Betty Jo Marks, both of Lawtell five grandchildren: Dr. Stacey Macip and husband, Dr. Joshua Hull of Lafayette Rachel Macip Junot and husband, Cody of Lafayette Jordan Quebedeaux, Sheree Quebedeaux, and Hunter Fontenot, all of Opelousas and three greatgrandchildren: Emerson Hull, Maddox Quebedeaux, and Rylan Quebedeaux.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Montgomery Fontenot his daughter, Lisa Fontenot Macip his parents, Charles Raymond Fontenot, Sr. and Helena Brasseaux Fontenot and one brother, Donald Ray Fontenot.

Pallbearers will be Marvin Macip, Jordan Quebedeaux, Hunter Fontenot, Cody Junot, Clay Bond, and Rayburn Vidrine.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, January 21, 2013, from 4 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A Rosary will be recited by Father Austin Leger at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening in the funeral home.
