Charles Ellis Lalay Babin

Opelousas- Rosary services for Charles Ellis Lalay Babin, age 71, will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2009, and an Elk service will be at 5:30 p.m. Private burial service wil be held at a later date.

Lalay was a long time resident of Opelousas. He died on November 10, 2009, at Opelousas General Health System.

Lalay was co-owner of BB Dental Lab in Opelousas. He was elected to the St. Landry Parish School Board from 1976-1982 and again from 1988-1998 and served as V.P. and President. He was a member of the LA National Guard for four years. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar during the Swamp Pop era. He was a member of the Esquires a very popular rock and roll band in the 50's and 60's. Also, he played in the Al Terry Band for 5 yrs. He was a long time Elks member of the Opelousas Lodge 1048. He served as king of the Frank's Hall-Fast Krewe in 2000 with the Queen Pamela Pamboo LaCombe.

Survivors include one daughter, Monique Louviere and husband, Christopher of Opelousas; one son, Charles Chas Babin, of Luling, LA; two brothers: John Gilbert Babin, of Houston, TX; and Gervis B.B. Babin and wife, Gayle of Opelousas; two brothers-in- law: Nick Maglione and Paul Ortego; one sister, Dorothy Babin Leger and husband, Joseph of Opelousas; two grandchildren: Bryce Christopher Louviere and Morgan Melissa Louviere.

Preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Blanche Guidroz Babin; maternal grand parents, Gervis and Dorothy Lalonde Guidroz; one daughter, Melissa Ann Babin; two sisters: Betty Babin Maglione and Margaret Babin Ortego; and one sister-in-law Carolyn Babin.

The family would like to extend a special Thanks to Dr. Ty Hargroder and Hospice Compassus, and the medical staff at the Opelousas General Health System especially the 3rd. floor and nurses in P.C.U.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home on Thursday, November 12, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
