Cecilia Doucet

Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA, for Mrs. Cecilia M. Doucet. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the St. Landry Cemetery in Opelousas, LA. Rev. Father James Brady will celebrate the Mass.
Cecilia was a native and longtime resident of Opelousas. She passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at her home at the age of 86. Doucets Acadiana Antiques was established in 1928 and was managed by her since 1945.
Cecilia was a graduate of Academy of the Immaculate Conception and Sacred Heart Academy in Grand Coteau. She was an avid basketball player and followed the team for many years. She loved fishing and hunting with her nephews and friends, being a world wide traveler and especially enjoyed trips and outings with the Marianites of the Holy Cross who were very close to her heart.
She had special interests in many charities including St. Landry Catholic Church, Maryknoll, Indian Missions, Disabled veterans, St. Judes Hospital, and the Prompt Succor Nursing Home Chapel. She was an active Girl Scout Leader, a member of the St. Landry Parish Drainage Board for many years, and a member of the St. Landry Parish Preservationists.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elton J. Doucet.
Survived by her brother, Dr. Lucius J. Doucet II and wife, Mrs. Harriet her sister, Mrs. Rose Briggs Boulet and husband, Dr. Loyd H. Boulet, Jr. and the following niece and nephews: Jennifer Briggs Charnews and husband, Dr. Mark Charnews Dr. Lucius J. Doucet III, Dr. Christopher Doucet and wife, Leslie Dr. Andr Doucet and wife, Michelle Mr. Ren Peter Briggs III and wife, Lori and Dr. Shawn Briggs and wife, Judene and a host of great nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, January 4, 2013, from 5 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Saturday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening in the funeral home.
