Carmen Aaron Parsons

Opelousas, La Funeral services for Carmen Aaron Parsons, 76, will be held at 2:00PM, Friday, December 1, 2006, in Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Opelousas, La with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery, Opelousas, La.

Rev. Pete Smith will conduct the services.

Mr. Aaron, a resident of Opelousas, La, died at 12:45AM, Thursday, November 30, 2006 at Opelousas General Health System, Opelousas, La.

Mr. Parsons was a very successful newspaper publisher during his life. He began his publishing career at the Daily Mt. Eagle in Jasper, Ala., Daily Corinthian in Corinth, Ms, and then moved to Opelousas in 1976 as the publisher of the Daily World. Mr. Parsons continued his work at the Daily World for 20 years and retired in 1996. During his tenure with the Daily World they won the highest award given in publishing for their
ision from the La. Press Association, The Sweepstakes Award, 5 times. Mr. Parsons also served as the President of the La. Press Association for 1993-1994. Mr. Parsons publishing career spanned over 50 years. Mr. Parsons won several awards in his lifetime including, Opelousas Chamber of Commerce person of the year,1989 and a State Award for Excellence in Industrial Development In La. Mr. Parson was a member of the Opelousas Rotary Club for several years and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award.

Mr Aaron was also a servant to his country during the Korean Conflict by serving in the US Army. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree In Business.

Music will be provided by the Episcopal Church Choir.

Survivors include his wife; Patricia Pat Farrell Parsons, Opelousas, La; sons; Donald T. Parsons and wife Kathy, Alabaster, Ala., Aaron Parsons, Jr. and wife Kris of Birmingham, Ala., Steven Parson, Birmingham, Ala., Chris Perkins, New Orleans, La; daughters; Debbi Smith and husband Gary, Andulasia, Ala, Cynthia Heying and husband The Rev. Chris Heying of Lynchburg, Va, Catherine Perkins, Lafayette, La. Mr. Parsons is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Laura Parsons, Anna Katherine Parsons, Taylor Parsons, Megan Parsons, Ashley Smith, Kalli Smith, Carrie Smith, Sarah Perkins, Mary Grace Heying, John Luke Heying.
