Opelousas-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Carl Vernon Schwarzenburg, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Our Lady of Queen of Angels Catholic Church, with MSGR. Keith DeRouen officiating the Mass. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.
Carl Vernon Schwartzenburg, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and community member, passed on September 8, 2024, at his home. He was born on May 2, 1940, in Opelousas, where he would also spend much of his life contributing to both his family and his community.
As the Co-Owner and Operator of Vermilion Wholesales Drugs, Carl was well-respected in his professional circle and was known for his unwavering dedication to his work. Beyond his career, he was a very loving and caring person, placing immense value on his family and their well-being. His love for his wife, Patricia Soileau, who he cherished for 62 wonderful years, was evident to all who knew them.
He was a man of great character and spirit, being a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus as 3rd degree , member of the Elks Club of Opelousas, and a member of the Jaycees in Opelousas. He contributed tirelessly to his church community as an usher at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
Carl's devotion to his loving wife of 62 years, Patricia Soileau Schwartzenburg of Opelousas, his son, Corey Schwartzenburg (Nicole) of Youngsville, and his daughters Kelly Schwartzenburg Barstow (Tracy) of Cecilia, and Jill Schwartzenburg Watson of Marble Falls, Texas, and a legacy continues through his seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom were lights in his life.
Carl is survived by his dear siblings, Becky Tucker (Danny) of Lewisburg, La., Patsy Bullara (Jimmy) of Port Barre, and Peggy Bambrick of Washington, La, and brother in laws, Leonard Ledoux of Opelousas, Curt Benoit of Washington, La., AND Millard Soileau of Florence Alabama. He joins in eternal rest with his parents, Vernon and Sis Schwartzenburg, his brother, Donald Schwartzenburg and wife, Kathleen, sisters, Jenny Ledoux and Connie Benoit, and son-in-law, Jerry Watson.
Carl’s life was a testament to love, family, and community service. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Visitation will be be on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon Jermon Collins, in the funeral home chapel on Sunday evening. On Monday September 16, 2024 the funeral home will open at 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Corey Schwartzenburg, Pierce Schwartzenburg, Porter Schwartzenburg, Tracy Barstow, Heath Barstow, Jay Watson, and John Thomas Watson.
