Capt Gilbert Belaire Fontenot

Opelousas Funeral services for Gilbert Fontenot, age 91, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 30, 2011, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park. Father Paul Bienvenu will officiate the services.
Gilbert, a native of Ville Platte, was a longtime resident of Opelousas. He passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Opelousas General Health System, surrounded by his family.
Capt worked for the Opelousas Police Department of 28 years, then he moved on the St. Landry Sheriff Department for 12 years and retired in 1992, he was a member of the K.C. 3409
Survivors include his two sons Larry Fontenot and wife, Mary of Piney Flats, TN, Jimmie Fontenot and wife, Annie of Opelousas, one daughter, Lois Sample and husband, Norman of Oak, TX, eleven grandchildren Kirt Fontenot of Beaumont, TX, Lisa Milton of Graham, WA, Mark Fontenot of Telford, TN, Kevin Fontenot, Deltona Florida, Dana Sample of Baton Rouge, LA, Brandon Sample of Red Oak, TN, Jamie Fontenot of Leonville, Brad Fontenot, of Slidell, LA, Stacy Lodrigue, of Opelousas, Tammy Ford of Lewistown, PA, Tommy Able of Tazewell, VA, eight great grandchildren.
Preceeded in death by his wife, Glade Reed Fontenot, parents, Hose and Eunice Fontenot, brothers and sisters Glayds Hollier, Eula Mosley, Lena Fontenot, Adam Edison Fontenot, Burke Fontenot, and Leonard Fontenot, nephews, Arthur Fontenot and Gene Godeaux.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, December 29, 2011, from 9 AM until 9:00 PM. On Friday, visitation will continue from 8 AM until 10:30 AM.
A rosary service will be held Thursday evening at 7:30 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel.
