Opelousas -A Mass of Christian Burial for Ben Zerangue will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016, at St. Landry Catholic Church. Fr. Austin Leger will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro, LA.
Ben was a resident of Opelousas; he died on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at his home, at the age of 95. Ben served in the Marines Corps for 4 years and fought in the Pacific area while in W.W. II. Ben was employed with St. Landry Bank for 38 years. He was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Landry Catholic Church for many years. He loved plants and gardening in his yard. He started "Bens Rubber Stamp Shop" in 1973. His favorite pastime was spending time with family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, with whom he shared his devout faith and his wonderful sense of humor. He was a member of Lyons Club, Knights of Columbus and VFW.
Ben is survived by children, Karl Zerangue of Scottsdale, Arizona, Wendel Zerangue and wife, Wanda of Carencro, Kent Zerangue and wife Susan of Lafayette, Sally Joubert and husband, Ed of Opelousas, and Tara Sibille and husband Kent of Bristol, LA., thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
Ben was preceded in death by wife of 60 years, Anna Grace Calais Zerangne, his parents, Altuise and Aldolphina Badeaux Zerangue, two sisters, Louise Z. Campbell and Leah Z. Little, three, brothers, Napolean, Roland and Hervin Zerangue and daughter in law, Linda Faul Zerangue.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and reopen on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
A Rosary service will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel.
