Opelousas Funeral Services for Mrs. Betty Lou Dunn Shelton will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, LA. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA. Rev. Perry Hubbs will officiate the services.
Mrs. Betty was a native of Wetumka, Oklahoma, and longtime resident of Opelousas, LA. She passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Opelousas General Health System at the age of 79. She and her husband owned and operated several Pro Golf Shops in Oklahoma and Louisiana and the Sonic DriveIn in Eunice, LA, for many years. She shared the passion of playing golf alongside her husband and children. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Opelousas, LA. As a pastime, she enjoyed playing Poker and spending time with her family and friends. She was a wonderful, loving, and caring wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include two sons, James Michael Shelton and wife, Deena of Broken Arrow, OK and James H. Butch Shelton III and wife, Anna of Mandeville, LA one daughter, Claudia Courville and husband, Leonard of Port Barre one sister, Wanda Holdeman and husband, Gene of Enid, OK 10 grandchildren: Crystal Courville Prather, James Nick Shelton, James Michael Courville, Jamie Nicole Shelton, Jared Paul Courville, Ashley Courville Lavergne, Katie Lyn Shelton, Amanda Martin McClenden, Brian Courville, and Shane Courville and 10 greatgrandchildren: Chase Dilan Courville, Adalee Faith Courville, Wyatt Paul Courville, Easton Jack Lavergne, Noah Courville, Jonah Courville, Eli Courville, Taylor Courville, Zack Courville, and Lexi Courville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hess Shelton, Jr. her parents, Claude Dunn and Sally Collins Dunn and one brother, Garrell Dunn.
Pallbearers will be Nick Shelton, Mike Courville, Jared Courville, Brian Courville, Blake Lavergne, and John Prather. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Shelton, Butch Shelton, and Leonard Courville.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, August 20, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Tuesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
