OpelousasA Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Port Barre, at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 15, 2012. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with Fr. Daniel Picard officiating.
It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Joyce Dekerlegand, age 66, announces her passing on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Opelousas General Health System. She enjoyed listing to French Music, her family was the love of her life including her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her brothers and sister. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Milton Dekerlegand of Opelousas, her children, Murphy Dekerlegand of Prairie Ronde, Melissa Richard and her husband, Shane of Church Point, and Sandra Kaiser and her husband, Standley of Krotz Springs, her brothers, Roy Lee Deranger and his wife, Shirley of Carencro, Kenneth Sonnier of Church Point, Theophile Sonnier and his wife, Pam of Youngsville, Monte Sonnier and his wife, Darlene of Lafayette, Johnny Sonnier and his wife, Winnie of Scott, and Ricky Deranger and his wife, Tiffany of Lafayette, her sister, Linda Gayle Young of Church Point, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph Blue and Rose Ozene Deranger, and her grandson, David Michael Duplechain.

A rosary will be prayed at 7 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday evening.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning Wednesday November 14, 2012 at 3:30 am until 10:00 pm. Visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 am until 10:30 am on Thursday November 15, 2012
