Betty Bihm

Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Sylvester Bihm, age 78, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2011, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Father Paul Bienvenu will celebrate the Mass. Musical selections will be provided by Ron Moreau and Phylis Simar.
Mrs. Betty was a native of Grand Prairie and a lifetime resident of Opelousas. She died on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at her home.
She was married for 62 years to Mr. Abe Bihm, Jr. who was a decorated WWII Veteran who served his country for 4 years in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Fanning. She was a wonderful caring wife, a devoted mother and caregiver of her grandchildren and husband. She loved her family more than life itself especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
She worked for Howard Brothers for 20 years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for many years, the President of the Ladies Altar Society for 2 years, and taught catechism for 7 years. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include four sons, Donald Bihm and wife, Diane of St. Francisville, LA Tommy Bihm and wife, Arlene of Geismar, LA Mike Bihm of Opelousas and Joey Bihm and wife, Tammy of Lawtell brothers, John Sylvester of Oroville, CA and Benny Sylvester and wife, Edwina of Thonotosassa, FL sistersinlaw, Alma Metz of Sacramento, CA and Dorothy Linn of Edmond, OK 8 grandchildren, 3 stepgrandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Louis Sylvester and Celina Fontenot Sylvester husband, John Abe Bihm, Jr. brothers, Bernard Sylvester and Adner Sylvester and one sister, Mary Ella.
Pallbearers will be sons, Donald, Tommy, Mike and Joey Bihm brother, Benny Sylvester, and nephew, Gary LaJack.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, June 17, 2011, from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening in the funeral home.
